NEWCOMER COMPETITION & TROPHY BALL
Congratulations to our students and couples who participated in this year’s NewComer competition and regional Trophy Ball. At the NewComer competition, students Dan Levy, Ben Friedman and Sayaka Martin each danced one honors dance to advance and graduate. Dan had 24 dance entries and Ben and Sayaka each had two. Dances included rumba, swing, waltz, cha-cha and foxtrot. Also receiving high marks that evening were Instructors Amy Jordan and Renae Smith for their performances. It was an evening to remember from the fragrant bouquets of flowers that surrounded the space to the delicious cocktail reception and the entertaining dance performances that followed. The evening concluded with a stunning performance by Professional Instructors, Renae Smith and Keith Jastram, who awed the crowd with their choreographed dance routine.
In addition, thirteen of our students, five who were couples, danced at Trophy Ball. They danced within three dance levels: Qualification, where students danced a minimum of four dances; Standard which is a minimum of six dances and Double Honors which is a total of 13 dances where students learn both male and female steps. Below is a list of all the students who were recognized for passing their respective levels of dance proficiency:
Preliminary Social Bronze
Intermediate Social Bronze
Thank you to everyone who participated and to our regional directors, Marina & Taliat, for a memorable experience.
Congratulations Westerville Fred Astaire!

Student Star of the Month
DANCING BUILDS CONFIDENCE
Nearly four months ago, Emily Pribonic took her first lesson at the Westerville studio. She had no previous dance experience but always had the desire to learn to dance. She grew up watching musicals with Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Donald O’Conner where she was mesmerized by their passionate performances, but what struck her most was how happy and confident they appeared while entertaining on screen. Emily wanted to feel that passion and confidence as well which is why she decided to begin taking ballroom dance lessons.
Since beginning her journey, Emily has genuinely enjoyed learning to ballroom dance and the confidence she has gained in the process. She loves how it makes her feel and enjoys seeing the combination of steps come together on the dance floor. Later this August, she will participate in her first regional competition, Buckeye Ball, where she will dance foxtrot, waltz, tango, rhumba, cha-cha, merengue, samba, and quickstep as part of the social foundation level of dance proficiency.
“I am both excited and nervous to be competing this August,” said student Emily Pribonic. “It’s my first competition ever and I feel there is still so much for me yet to learn.” “My ultimate goal when I decided to begin taking dance lessons was to grow into the title of a dancer,” she added.
Emily continues to make great strides on the dance floor putting in many hours of lessons to perfect her skill. She looks forward to this upcoming competition and invites spectators to come watch and support her on August 27 & 28 at the McKinley Grand Hotel in Canton, Ohio. Emily hopes this competition with be just one of many that she will participate in as she continues to advance as a ballroom dancer.
