Networking can lead to a New Hobby...Hello Dance!
As career professionals, we attend networking events with the hopes of making the right connections and for Sasha Saberi not only did he meet some great people, he also picked up a new hobby. About eight months ago, Sasha attended a N2 Publishing network event being held at Azia Rug Gallery where two of our Fred Astaire pro dancers attended and performed a few routines to entertain guests. After the performances, our instructors, Sarah May and Keith Jastram, mingled with guests and offered everyone two free dance lessons. Although Sasha thought it would be fun to learn something new, he was a bit reluctant about taking lessons but after some convincing by Sarah on how easy and fun it is to learn, he decided to schedule his first lesson.
“I was reluctant at first to learn ballroom dance because of fear but after a few lessons, I began to really enjoy it and can’t see myself stopping,” said Sasha.
Sasha takes about two lessons a week. He finds it to be a great stress reliever from his busy schedule. It’s his mental break from all the daily distractions in his life. He enjoys seeing his dancing improve over time and feels more confident on the dance floor. Sasha has participated in both the Freddy Ball and Buckeye Ball competitions. At the recent Buckeye Ball, Sasha danced with Instructor Sarah May to a paso doble solo. He won runner-up top bronze for his performance. He considers these competitions an added bonus for advancing his skill and reinforcing what he learns to make him a better dancer.
“I am so proud of how much Sasha has grown as a dancer over these past several months,” said Sarah. “He has worked so hard learning the steps and did a marvelous job competing at Buckeye Ball,” she added.
Since beginning his dance journey, Sasha has not only improved as a dancer but he has also grown more confident. He feels a sense of accomplishment from learning ballroom dance and he takes great pride in being a ballroom dancer. The biggest challenge for him in dancing was learning the variety of dances and steps. His fear was that he would forget them or begin to blend some of the dances together. As a new dancer his advice is to try new experiences and not allow your fears to hold you back from an opportunity like learning ballroom dance.
Sasha is a channel account manager for a large software company in the U.S and travels frequently for work. One aspect he’s liked about taking lessons at our studio is how flexible we are with working around his schedule to fit in dance lessons. In addition to dancing, Sasha enjoys staying active through regular exercise, playing sports, hiking and rock climbing.
